When faced with a rack of shirts in a rainbow of solid colors, do you know which color is best suited to your body? Do you know which colors make your eyes stand out, flatter your hips, and take years off your face? Most people do not, so they spend an awful lot of time in the dressing room trying on every imaginable color to see how they look. Unfortunately, many people spend far too much time looking fatter, older and much less attractive than they really should look.
Which comes first? The shirt or the woman? This is kind of a funny question, but it brings up an extremely important issue. The color and pattern chosen for your clothing could mean that others notice your clothing first, rather than instantly drawing their eye to you as a person. You don't want to just be the hanger carrying around your clothing. You want to let your clothing carry and present you for the glowing diamond you really are.
A Color for Every Season
When selecting clothing colors for a client, those working in the fashion industry will look at three important personal factors:
Skin Coloring
Eye Color
Hair Color
Depending on these personal factors, a category or season of color can be selected. The color palettes started out being organized by identifying them with the four seasons on earth. Today, these palettes have been divided even further into smaller palettes that reflect the way most people sit primarily in one color palette while touching into another as well.
Today, the color palettes are identified in terms of the season as well as a variety of other terms:
Deep
Clear
Cool
Light
Warm
Soft
Each of these terms refer to a different type of color. The color may change in terms of hue, temperature, or intensity. Therefore, you can have greens and blues in every color palette, but the shade and appearance of the blues will vary from one palette to another.
So, this means one person might be a deep winter while someone else is naturally a deep autumn. Depending on this determination, these people would select different colored tops from that spinning rack in the store.
Finding Your Natural Palette
So, how do you go about finding the perfect palette for your body? Many people will work with a professional to determine what colors they should be wearing to look younger, thinner and more vibrant, but if you can't afford this you can do it for yourself. Look up the different seasonal color palettes online and start holding paper or fabrics of different palettes up to your face. Try to look closely and determine which colors seem to show off your face and hair, presenting your skin in the best possible light.
You can tell when a color is drowning someone out and when it is lighting them up beautifully. You want others to see your face when you walk into the room, not the color of your shirt! If you already know some of the colors that look great on you, then you have a head start figuring out which color palette will show you off the best.
